Privacy Policy

Guitar Mentor ("we", "us") builds tools that help guitarists learn, practise and perform, powered by our music intelligence, PlugAI. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.

What we collect

• Account data — when you sign in with Apple or Google we receive a user identifier and the profile details you allow that provider to share. When you create an email account, Firebase stores your email address and securely manages your password credential; Guitar Mentor never receives your plain-text password.
• Practice data — your songs, setlists, streaks, XP, lesson progress and related activity, so the app can pick up where you left off.
• PlugAI conversations — the prompts you send and the responses generated, used to deliver and improve the feature.
• Audio & song content — audio files you choose to import or analyse, and the stems, chords, sections, lyrics you provide, and MIDI derived from them. Live microphone input for the tuner and Chord Assist is processed on your device to detect pitch and chords and is not recorded or uploaded unless you explicitly save or import a song.
• Subscriptions & purchases — when you start a free trial or subscribe to Pro, our payments partner RevenueCat records your subscription status and purchase history. The payment itself is processed by Apple or Google; we never receive your card details.
• Diagnostics, performance & usage — crash reports, app version, device and operating-system details, anonymized startup/rendering traces, network timing, and basic product-interaction data used to keep the app stable and responsive.
• Advertising & install measurement — we advertise Guitar Mentor, and we need to know which of those ads led to an install. To do that we use the Meta (Facebook) SDK, which records an app-install and app-open event and, where you allow it, your device's advertising identifier (IDFA on iOS, Advertising ID on Android). On iOS we ask for this through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt on first launch: if you decline, we do not collect the advertising identifier, and measurement falls back to Apple's privacy-preserving SKAdNetwork. You can change the choice at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking, or reset or delete your Advertising ID in Android Settings → Privacy → Ads.

How we use it

To run the app's features, sync your library across your devices, manage your subscription and enforce fair-use limits on the free and Pro plans, and to maintain and improve PlugAI's quality. We do not sell your personal data.

We do use an advertising identifier for install and ad measurement — telling us that an ad led to an app install — which Apple classifies as tracking. That is the only such use, and only with your permission: your practice data, your songs, your PlugAI conversations and your audio are never shared with advertisers or used to build an advertising profile.

Service providers we share with

We rely on trusted providers, under agreements that protect your data:

• Apple — Sign in with Apple and App Store payments.
• Google Firebase and Google Cloud — authentication, crash reporting (Crashlytics), performance monitoring, backend hosting and data processing.
• RevenueCat — subscription and entitlement management.
• Cloudflare R2 — storage for imported audio, generated stems, exports and analysis files.
• DeepSeek — PlugAI chat, coaching and text generation.
• Groq — speech-to-text transcription when lyrics or vocals are processed from user-imported audio.
• Replicate — audio analysis tasks such as source separation, chord detection, note extraction and lyric alignment.
• Firecrawl and LRCLIB — web lookup and lyric metadata features where available.
• Sentry — error and crash diagnostics for the app and our backend, alongside Crashlytics.
• Meta Platforms (Facebook) — app-install and ad measurement, as described above. This is the only partner that receives an advertising identifier, and only where you have allowed it.
• YouTube — when you import a YouTube link, the video identifier you supply is used to fetch that audio for analysis. Playback uses YouTube's official player. We are not affiliated with YouTube or Google beyond the services listed here.

Your choices & rights

• Use the app as a guest, with reduced data collection.
• Request a copy of your data, or its deletion, at any time — delete your account in the app, or email admin@plugai.in for a copy.
• Decline or withdraw permission for advertising measurement in your phone's privacy settings, as described above. The app works exactly the same either way.
• Revoke microphone access in your phone's Settings — the tuner and Chord Assist simply won't run.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time in the app (Profile → About → Delete Account). This permanently removes your profile, song analyses and setlists from our servers and wipes Guitar Mentor's data from your device. Deleting your account does not automatically cancel an active App Store or Google Play subscription — manage or cancel that in the relevant store's subscription settings.

Data retention & security

We keep your data only as long as needed to provide the service or as required by law, and protect it with encryption in transit and access controls.

Children and young learners

Guitar Mentor is a general-audience learning app. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly create an account for a child under 13.

Because many learners are teenagers, the app asks on sign-up whether you are 18 or older. If you say you are under 18, we record an age band and birth year only — never a full date of birth — and the account is held until a parent or guardian confirms it. Advertising-identifier collection is not requested for accounts in the under-18 band.

Where a school or academy enrols a student under 18, the school raises a consent request and we email the guardian a link to approve or refuse, as required by India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. Refusing is as easy as agreeing, and consent can be withdrawn later from the same link. A guardian's approval never by itself creates an account for the student.

If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal data, email admin@plugai.in and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "last updated" date.
